The main idea is how the Cooperative Extension System organizes its work. Traditionally, Extension programs are framed around three primary areas: Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences (formerly called Home Economics), and Youth Development (through 4-H). Community Development is not listed as one of these core areas. It’s still an important topic that Extension staff often address, but it’s typically tackled within the existing primary areas or as cross-cutting programming rather than as a separate primary category. So, Community Development is the choice that isn’t listed as a primary program area.
